TOURNAMENT INFORMATION:

The Pre-Satellite tournament is designed so that entry-level players have an opportunity to participate in a tournament setting where they get to compete against a number of opponents during a set period of time (usually three hour blocks).

TOUNAMENT ELIGIBILITY:

Players cannot not have won three matches or more in a USTA Satellite singles tournament this year. If a player wins their division two times they must move up to the next division. Parents/guardians must monitor in order to avoid repercussions per the tournament directors discretion (i.e., mandatory withdrawal, default etc.).

TOURNAMENT FEES:

$35 per player per event.

All events are USTA sanctioned and players should register for these events through the USTA Tennislink site below, (use OCCTA as the “keyword” to find your tournament date, month and/or location):

http://tennislink.usta.com/TOURNAMENTS/Common/Default.aspx

*Events designated with an asterisk (*) must register for non-sanctioned event here:

copy and paste this link to a new page:

https://thriva.activenetwork.com/Reg4/Form.aspx?IDTD=3907795&RF=5309335&mode=0

Entries are due the Tuesday prior to the tournament. Players are limited to one event unless they get the directors permission. Deadline for entry is Tuesday, 1 PM, before each tournament. Match/division times will be available after 1 PM, Friday, before each tournament at the tournament home site. Fees must be in hands of the tournament director. Fees will not be refunded after tournament entry deadline.

For Sanctioned events it is the player’s responsibility to look up their match/division start time on the tournament home site. Non-sanctioned events the tournament director will contact players with match/division start times.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:

The format is a round robin style where players compete against opponents of the same age bracket during a set period of time. For example, the B8 may be scheduled from 12 a.m. to 3 p.m., the G12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and so forth. Once the exact times are determined they will be posted on the tournament home site the Friday prior to the tournament. The total players in a division divided into 36 will determine the number of games played per round. For example, if there are 5 players in the B12 they will play a total 7 games a total against each opponent. If there are 8 players in the division they would play 4-5 games total (all no-add scoring) against each opponent. If draws are small, the tournament committee reserves the right to combine divisions (male or female) at their discretion.

Teresa, a native of central Mexico, lives with her active family in Irvine and is an active player at the Racquet Club of Irvine. She previously worked at the Child Development Centers (CDC) at the Alderwood School in Irvine from 2006-2011 as a teacher for their before and after school care. Prior to 2006 she was a substitute teacher for CDC for two years.

Teresa has organized and coordinated USTA Jr. Team tennis for the spring and fall seasons the past ten years and to the Racket Club of Irvine for their youth program for approximately three years and coordinated JTT at Irvine, Woodbridge and South Lake sites. Many of these teams have played in the finals of the Southern California USTA (United States Tennis Association) team championships at UCLA and other locations. Teresa had up to 47 players playing JTT.

Always one to make sure she know’s what’s happening in July of 2010 she attended a three hour workshop training (Quickstart tennis), pertaining to the new way to play tennis for kids 10 and Under.

As a player, Teresa has been playing for the past 14 years with competitive team club tennis at RCI and Woodbridge Tennis Club. Her strength continues on and off the court by using her child development skills (currently working on her degree) and natural ability to encourage children to love the game of tennis. Many of these kids that played JTT went on to play varsity tennis at various high schools. Teresa has infectious, honest enthusiasm and displays an expertise for the game which she passes on to each and every kid that she’s influenced through the game.

Her passion for kids, tennis and school translates to her new position as OCCTA’s Tennis After School Coordinator. Check her out promoting TAS in coordination with SCTA’s 10 and Under Tennis efforts at local facilities in Orange County and for information to bring tennis to OC school playgrounds!

COSTA MESA, CA September 25, 2011 – Record crowds came out today to watch local OC native Steve Johnson defeat New Zealand’s Artem Sitak, [5], 6-3, 6-3 in today’s final at the Costa Mesa Pro Classic Futures tournament. Despite Johnson waking up this morning thinking he had food poisoning or the flu he displayed magnificent play moving Sitak side to side and hitting some incredible winners off his forehand. Steve Sr. said before play started, “we’ll see who long Stevey can last in this match.” Apparently it was just enough to produce a great win in his hometown stomping grounds.

Kudos to tournament director Hank Lloyd for running another great event with his tireless effort. “We try to provide a professional run event, like the US Open. During the tournament we ran a ladies round robin last Friday which netted $400 to be donated to the American Cancer Society, according to Lloyd, also the tennis director at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.” In this down economy the Costa Mesa Pro Classic is truly benefitting the community with a free world class event and also giving back to a great cause.

ABOUT THE USTA PRO CIRCUIT:

With 88 tournaments throughout the country and prize money ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, the USTA Pro Circuit is the pathway to the US Open and tour-level competition for aspiring tennis players and a frequentbattleground for established professionals. Last year, more than 1,000 men and women from more than 70 countries competed on the USTA Pro Circuit for approximately $3.2 million in prize money and valuable ATP World Tour and Sony Ericsson WTA Tour ranking points. Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova, Andy Murray, Jelena Jankovic, James Blake, Justine Henin, John Isner, Melanie Oudin and Mardy Fish are among today’s top stars that began their careers on the USTA Pro Circuit. The USTA Pro Circuit is world class tennis administered on the local level and played on local tennis courts as part of the fabric of communities nationwide — an opportunity for current and new fans to experience the excitement and intensity of the professional game in their neighborhood.

The Michael Chang Tennis Foundation announced that the Racquet Club of Irvine will host the Michael Chang Tennis Classic, July 29-31. All proceeds from this USTA sanctioned charity event will benefit the American Red Cross for Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief. Some tournament sponsors include: VantaQuest, Nestle, Babolat, Tiger Balm and Reebok amoungst other.

To kick off the tournament, Michael, the former #2 World ranked and ATP tour player will personally host a tennis clinic at RCI with some of his professional tennis buddies on Saturday, July 23rd . This interactive clinic offers participants the opportunity to play fun games and drills that will test skill level and speak with former top level touring pros. According to tournament director Becky Edles Rye, “Michael’s roots run deep in Orange County. With the start of his own family here it’ great that he and his wife Amber Lui (for SCTA junior and Stanford standout) continue to grow these roots further in partnership with the SCTA and Orange County Community Tennis Association. Of course the focus too is friendship and competition along with supporting an important cause. I’m thrilled to be part of this inaugural tournament”.

Draws may be limited since this is a long weekend, 3 day event. Clinic space is already filling up and participants are encouraged to sign up now. For more information visit the tournament website at: changtennis.com.
